As summer reaches its peak, the fashion world is already buzzing with anticipation for the upcoming Spring/Summer 2025 New York Fashion Week. Running from September 6 to 11, 2024, this year's schedule might be concise, but it promises an array of surprises and notable showcases.
The festivities kick off on Friday, September 6 at 1 PM with Area, a brand celebrating its 10th anniversary. This is a significant milestone for the label, and expectations are high for an impressive start to the week. Also gracing the opening day are Collina Strada and Willy Chavarria, both known for their innovative and socially conscious designs.

Pieter Mulier will join the ranks with an off-calendar show. Mulier, a Belgian designer with a rich history in New York, has opted out of Alaïa’s usual Paris couture season slot. His decision underscores his deep connection to New York, a city he describes as a source of resilience and creativity. "New York has a very special significance to me," Mulier told Vogue. "It’s the city of resilience. And resilience is the feeding ground for creativity. My time in New York has not only shaped my artistic vision but has become an integral part of who I am."

European Influence

This season, New York Fashion Week will see several European brands crossing the Atlantic. Ib Kamara, the official creative director of Off-White, will present his second collection on Sunday, September 8 at noon. The anticipation for Kamara's work is palpable as he continues to build on Virgil Abloh's legacy while infusing his unique vision into the brand.

Ronald van der Kemp will bring his autumn 2024 couture collection to the New York runway on Wednesday, September 11 at 11 AM. Known for his sustainable approach and couture craftsmanship, van der Kemp’s collection is expected to be a highlight of the week. Elin Kling and Karl Lindman of Toteme, after a stop in Paris, will showcase their collection on Tuesday, September 10 at 10 AM.

The Swedish duo is renowned for their minimalist yet luxurious designs, and their New York presentation is highly anticipated. Adding to the international flair, Mexican brand Campillo, led by LVMH Prize finalist Patricio Campillo, will hold its first fashion show in New York on Saturday, September 7 at 9 AM. This debut is particularly exciting as Campillo is celebrated for his innovative designs that blend cultural heritage with modern aesthetics.

Returning Favorites and Debuts

Who Decides War is back on the official schedule with a show on Saturday, September 7 at 1 PM. Rio Sport, Rio Uribe’s newly renamed brand, will also make its return, showing on Wednesday, September 11 at 1 PM. The week will feature a strong representation of this year’s CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund (CVFF) finalists. Designers Kate Barton, Grace Ling, Jane Wade, and Wiederhoeft are all returning to the schedule, showcasing their latest collections.

Additionally, Taylor Thompson of 5000, Sebastien Ami, and Presley Oldham will make their New York Fashion Week debuts. Melitta Baumeister, the winner of last year’s CVFF, will close the week with her first-ever fashion show on September 11 at 5 PM.

Notable Absences and Early Showcases

While the lineup is strong, a few major designers are noticeably absent from the official schedule. Altuzarra, Helmut Lang, Gabriela Hearst, Fforme, and Ralph Lauren are missing from the week’s roster. However, for Proenza Schouler and Ralph Lauren, the reason is simply timing. Proenza Schouler will host an intimate presentation on Wednesday, September 4, providing a sneak peek of their new collection before the official start of Fashion Week. Ralph Lauren, meanwhile, will transport guests to the Hamptons for a special showcase on Thursday, September 5. These early presentations set a high bar for the week, offering a glimpse into the creativity and innovation that will define the Spring/Summer 2025 season.

Highlights and Expectations

As always, New York Fashion Week is about more than just the clothes. It’s an opportunity for designers to make bold statements, challenge norms, and set trends for the upcoming season.
