Gently agitate the water to create suds, submerge the raffia item and gently swish it around in the soapy water. Allow the item to soak for a few minutes. Gently scrub any stained or soiled areas with a soft brush or cloth. Rinse the item thoroughly with cool, clean water until all detergent is removed.
- Water Temperature: Use lukewarm or cool water when handwashing raffia fabric. Avoid hot water, as it can cause the fibers to weaken or deform.
- Avoid Harsh Chemicals: Refrain from using harsh chemicals, bleach, or strong detergents, as they can damage the natural raffia fibers. Stick to gentle, mild detergents.
- Drying: After handwashing, gently press the water out of the raffia item by placing it on a clean, dry towel and rolling it up to absorb excess moisture. Reshape the item to its original dimensions and allow it to air dry in a shaded area, away from direct sunlight or heat sources. Avoid hanging raffia items as they may lose their shape.
- Ironing: Raffia fabric is not suitable for ironing as it can melt or become misshapen under heat. Avoid using an iron on raffia items.
