How to choose a vest

Decide whether it is a layer or a top. A straight or V-neck vest in wool blend, twill or tweed is a layer: it goes over a shirt or fine knit and reads as office wear. A bodycon, hourglass or peplum vest with a deep V is cut to be worn alone and belongs at dinner or a party.

Can a vest be worn without a shirt underneath?
